Tuesday 30th November
A monthly evening of the finest folk music live at the Old Queens Head in Islington, with Cinder Well & Thom Ashworth.
Cinder Well is the doomy folk project of Amelia Baker of eco-anarchist folk-punk act, Blackbird Raum. Amelia writes songs ignited with harmony vocals, resonator guitar, viola, fiddle, upright bass, and shruti box drones. Amelia is joined by folk and punk music veterans of the Pacific Northwest and Norway: Marit Schmidt (Vradiazei, Sangre de Muerdago, Disemballerina), Mae Kessler (Ekstasis), and Magnus Nymo (Blackbird Raum, Lyngfarer, REGN).
Cinder Well’s sound grows out of a collective love of 1970’s folk-rock, and the traditional ballads and dance music of America, Ireland, and Scandinavia, in addition to roots in their own distinct musical communities. Cinder Well released their debut full length album “The Unconscious Echo” in May 2018. This album release will take the band on a three week tour of Ireland, England and Scotland.
Thom Ashworth is an English folksinger and bassist, hailing from Hampshire but calling East London home, who performs stripped back arrangements of traditional songs for solo voice and bass.
‘Once you’ve heard him, you won’t forget that superb tenor voice or the unique sound the tracks on this EP have to offer.’ – Folk Radio UK
